In a recent development, the State Government has given its approval for Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) to incorporate 'Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar' into its name, replacing 'Aurangabad.' This decision aligns with the government's official change of the city's name in the gazette to 'Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar,' accompanied by orders to update the name within the district collector's office.
The university, which had been using 'Aurangabad' in its name, initiated this request on October 4, 2023. The proposal was presented by Principal Secretary of Higher and Technical Education, Vikaschandra Rastogi, during a recent Cabinet meeting.
Following deliberation, the Cabinet has granted Bamu the permission to officially adopt 'Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar' in its name. The Information and Public Relations Department of the Government released a press statement today, confirming the name changes for both Aurangabad and Osmanabad to 'Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar' and 'Dharashiv,' respectively, within the university's jurisdiction.
Moreover, the Cabinet has modified the submission deadlines for proposals related to new courses, subjects, colleges, and additional divisions. Education societies are now invited to submit their proposals in the prescribed format to the university registrar's office before November 15, 2023.
Sanjay Shinde, the university's Public Relations Officer, confirmed this decision, stating that all affiliated colleges under Bamu's jurisdiction must update their official correspondence. Any requests, including those for new divisions and courses, made after November 15, 2023, are required to mention 'Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar' to be considered valid.
