The Gautala-Autramghat wildlife sanctuary will be off-limits to tourists until September 15, according to the forest department. This is the first time they have implemented a complete ban during the rainy season, as outlined in the sanctuary's management plan.
Dnyaneshwar Desai, the range forest officer for Chalisgaon, explained that the main reasons for the ban are to protect both human lives and the sanctuary's biodiversity and wildlife. Every year, some tourists visit the sanctuary to see its beautiful waterfalls and valleys. However, due to irresponsible behavior, accidents and deaths have occurred. Additionally, the rainy season is crucial for the regeneration and reproduction of the flora and fauna, which must be safeguarded.
The ban has been in effect since July 17 and has been successfully enforced in the Chalisgaon range. However, it is yet to be ratified in the Kannad range. Wildlife enthusiasts from Aurangabad and nearby areas often enter the sanctuary through the Kannad range, so it's important for this area to also follow the ban.
To ensure the ban is followed effectively, the forest department may involve green volunteers to assist in its implementation. The primary goal is to protect the sanctuary's natural treasures and ensure everyone's safety during the monsoon season.
