Lakhs of Muslims across the city celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday with great enthusiasm and fervor. After observing the holy month of Ramzan and offering prayers, the community gathered at Eidgahs to offer Namaz and exchange greetings with their loved ones.
The Eidgah in the Cantonment area witnessed a large number of people congregating to offer Namaz. Maulana Nasim Miftahi addressed the gathering and spoke about the significance of the day. He reminded the community to remember Allah not just during times of distress but also during happy moments. He emphasized that Eid brings people together, regardless of their financial status.
Wajed Quadri of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind stressed the importance of education for girls, while Shaikh Alimuddin Nadvi of Jama Masjid urged people to continue their worship and devotion throughout the year, just like they did during Ramzan. Eid Namaz was led by Jama Masjid's Pesh Imam Hafez Zaker Saheb, who also read the ‘Kutba’ in Arabic. He prayed for the happiness, peace, and prosperity of the country.
Before offering Namaz, Mehraj Siddiqui from the Muslim Numainda Council read out some resolutions on behalf of the community. The resolutions condemned the changing of names of cities in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, demanded an inquiry into the Atiq Ahmad murder case, and opposed the removal of Mughal history from school textbooks.
Several dignitaries, including MP Imtiaz Jaleel, former mayor Rasheed Mamu, and former corporator Afsar Khan, were present at the Eidgah to convey their greetings to the community.
