Dr Ashok Bandgar, Assistant Professor at Bamu, Suspended for Sexual Harassment

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Dr Ashok Bandgar, an assistant professor from the Dramatics Department of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu), has been suspended by the university administration on Wednesday for alleged sexual harassment. The suspension order was issued by the vice chancellor, Dr Pramod Yeole, after a college girl lodged a complaint with Begumpura Police Station against Dr Bandgar.

In the suspension orders, it was stated that a separate departmental inquiry and an independent investigation by the Vishakha Samiti would be initiated into the case. The assistant professor was suspended on the basis of the internal grievances redressal committee and the case registered against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The orders also stated that he would not be able to leave the headquarter without the permission of a competent officer during the suspension period.

According to sources, the girl was pursuing an undergraduate course at the Government College of Arts and Science when she came in contact with Dr Bandgar for guidance for a service course. He also helped her to get admission to a university department and kept her as a paying guest in his house. The accused allegedly raped the girl in July 2022.

The victim filed a complaint with Bamu and sought permission to lodge a police complaint. After conducting a preliminary inquiry, the university granted permission and the victim filed a complaint against Dr Bandgar at Begumpura Police Station on Tuesday.
