More than 70,000 objections have been filed against the proposed name change of Aurangabad district to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. The State Government has allowed submitting objections and suggestions until March 27th, and the number of objections continues to rise. On a single day, around 24,000 objections were filed, taking the total to 70,000.
The objections have been submitted from across the state, not just from the district or Marathwada. The Divisional Commissioner's office has been receiving objections by post or email. Citizens have started filing objections after the notification, and the objections are increasing in number.
The last date for objections filing is March 27th, and action will be taken as per further orders of the government. Camps are being set up in the streets of the city for citizens to file objections, and different meetings are being held to discuss the issue.
The demand to change the name of Aurangabad district to Sambhaji Nagar has been present for 35 years, and the state government decided to change the name after approval from the central government. However, with the rising number of objections, it remains to be seen if the name change will take place.
