The Aurangabad city police have denied permission to the Sakal Hindu Ekatrikaran Samiti (SHES) for organizing a morcha to support the renaming of the city, scheduled to take place on Sunday. In a letter to the organizers, the police stated that permission was being denied to maintain law and order in the city.
However, the organizers have expressed their determination to go ahead with the protest. The morcha, which is planned to start from Kranti Chowk and pass through Paithan Gate, Tilak Path, and culminate at Mahatma Phule's statue in Aurangpura, seeks to welcome the government's decision to rename the city.
Despite the police denying permission, Balasaheb's Shiv Sena district president Rajendra Janjal stated that the morcha would take place as planned. He added that the issue of law and order would not arise as the protest is being carried out to support the government's decision.
The renaming of Aurangabad has been a contentious issue, with some groups demanding that the city be renamed after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. While the Maharashtra government has expressed its intention to rename the city, the move has faced opposition from some quarters. The planned protest is the latest in a series of agitations on the issue.
