The city of Aurangabad in has been officially renamed as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar by the state and central governments. As of March 22nd, 1,48,203 objections have been filed against the name change, with 32,582 objections filed on Friday alone. In contrast, only 4,166 notices and 774 postcards have been received in support of the name change.
Citizens have until March 27th to file their objections or support for the name change at the Divisional Commissioner's office. Meanwhile, the Hindu Integration Committee has launched a campaign in support of the name change and is filling notification forms across the district. On Monday, the committee plans to submit their applications in support of the name change to the Divisional Commissioner's office using bullock carts.
With Monday being the last day to file objections or support, there is expected to be a huge rush at the Divisional Commissioner's office. Both sides are making efforts to file more applications, and a large crowd was already seen at the office on Friday. The government will take action on the issue after considering all the objections and suggestions.
