Relatives forbidden without passes at GMCH, considering the doctors' safety

An attack on three resident doctors of the GMCH took place on Tuesday night. These attacks were done by a patient's relatives. In response to this, the doctors took a stand to discontinue their services, but eventually resumed by midnight.

Keeping this in mind, the GMCH has decided to implement strict issuing of passes to the patient's relatives, in a meeting on Wednesday. The in-charge dean Dr. Varsha Rote, deputy dean Dr. Shrinivas Gadappa, medical superintendent Dr. Vikas Rathod, security officers and other officials of the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) were all present for the same.

Six security guards have been appointed as the action force to handle the situation during such incidents, by Dr. Rote and she encouraged the use of walkie-talkies from now on. Also, passes shall be essentially used to meet the patients. A timetable has been set up and a senior doctor will supervise the wards during the night. A weekly inspection by the dean should also be brought into practice from now on.
